Dr. Evans O. Sikinyi

Evans Sikinyi holds a Ph. D, Horticulture from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, U.S.A., a MSc. Plant Breeding, University of Nairobi and a BSc.  Agriculture from the University of Nairobi. He is a Board Member of the National Biosefety Authority (NBA) in Kenya, a Member of the Intellectual Property Committee (IPC) of the International Seed Federation (ISF), a member of the WEMA product deployment team, AATF and also a Member of the Technical Working Group for Agribusiness & Financial Services under the Agricultural Sector Coordinating Unit.

Previously he headed the Seed Certification and Plant Varietay Protection at KEPHIS, and earlier on as the Manager, Plant Variety Protection Office, Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service.  He also served as the chair of the National task force for formulation of Policy and Legislation to protect Traditional Knowledge, Genetic Resources and Folklore, in Kenya and a Committee member of the Ad hoc Advisory committee on the Funding Strategy for the Benefit Sharing, of the Funding Strategy of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) representing the African Region.

He also served as the Chair, of the Impact study of Introduction of Plant Breeders Rights, under the UPOV System.   He has also been a member UPOV Council several Technical Working Parties under UPOV. He presently serves as the Secretary of the Eastern Africa Seed Committee (EASCOM), which promotes the harmonization of the seed policy and regulations in the ASARECA member states.
